HISTORY
My entrance into the sport of racing pigeons was at the age of 14 in 1964. I won my 1st race in old birds of 1965 winning 2-300 mile races back to back weeks with the same pigeon. From that time to now I have never missed a season of flying and this is my 41st year in the sport. My biggest interest in the sport has always been breeding, and flying the 400 and 500 mile races. I tried a lot of different pigeons in the process of developing a family of birds that would consistently win through 500 miles. The family I have I call Lee/Janssens because they are a blend of Vernazza, Calia, Teague, Mexico, Manders Imports, Hartogs Imports, and Ostlander. It took me 25 plus years to blend these into a family that can win 100 to 500 miles and have minimum loses. I added a few other families along with my Janssens over the years, they are Persoons in 1991, Bekaerts in 1993, Devriendts from Campbell Strange in 1995 and most recent Mayam Wegges. In 1992 I became interested in flying in futurities and so for have won 5, placed in the top 5 in 12 others and placed in several more including a couple of AU Convention Races, Midwest, and Dixie Southern. I have found out by crossing the Janssens with the other families I get a higher percentage of winners. So far I have won 400 and 500 mile races with each family when crossed on my Janssens. Along with the racing I have judged racing pigeons shows in 4 different states and have served every position in club and combine including president since 1974.
